Arias in Motion – A journey from Opera to Napoli
Roberto Forleo’s choreographic work “Arias” brings together some of the most beloved characters and musical themes from the Opera repertoire. The ballet weaves together virtuosic dancing and expressive movements to bring to life the passion, conflicts, and triumphs of opera’s most legendary figures.
Napoli is a ballet created in 1842 by Danish choreographer Auguste Bournonville. The ballet was created after Bournonville had visited Napoli (Italy), where he was impressed by the local colors and vibrancy of the city in constant movement. He strove to include the “brightness and dynamism” of the city in the work, ending the final act with a lively tarantella. It tells the story of Teresina, a young Italian girl who falls in love with Gennaro, a fisherman, and culminates in the marriage of the lovers.
