An eclectic evening of music and stories in memory of multi-Grammy-award-winning composer and performer Peter Schickele, creator of P.D.Q. Bach and the public radio program “Schickele Mix.”
In this special program curated by Schickele’s daughter, family and friends and special guests perform selections from the composer’s classical and popular music oeuvre. With WQXR host Elliott Forrest presiding, the musicians who knew Schickele best share a range of fare, from well-loved P.D.Q. Bach numbers to a haunting ballad written for Joan Baez, interspersed with never-before-seen film footage and remembrances by music and comedy luminaries.
A lively celebration of the life and work of a one-of-a-kind creative genius, the artist The New Yorker hailed as “a latter-day Haydn…the one American composer whose name makes everyone smile.”
