Performed by the UWG Theatre & Music Departments and our own youth theatre program, the Art Center is proud to off Rogers and Hammerstein’s most beloved musical, The Sound of Music, for our youth in Carroll and surrounding counties. This full length (2hr, 30minute) production is based on the real-life story of the Von Trapp Family singers, one of the world’s best-known concert groups in the era immediately preceding World War II. The musical tells the story of Maria, a young postulant in an Austrian abbey, who takes a job as governess to a large family while she decides whether to become a nun. She falls in love with the Von Trapp children and their widowed father and vice versa. After the Captain marries Maria, he is ordered to accept a commission in the German navy, but he opposes the Nazis. Denying his new command, he and Maria decide to flee from Austria with the children. Directed by Pauline Gagnon.
